Travel Advice & Financial Services:
When travelling / relocating think about how you will deal with you mail, any financial commitments (I.e. set-up direct debits), how you can keep in touch with your friends and relatives, medical cover, any VISA’s you may need and take care of your passport expiry date.
Travel – Yacht Crew advises the following:
Mail: Either have somebody you trust collect your mail, or set-up a mail box / forwarding programme if you have new address overseas which is going to be reliable for you.
Mobile/Handy/Cell Phone: You can purchase a unlocked SIM free phone (or have your current phone unlocked by your current provider) so you can purchase pay-as-you-go (pre-paid) SIM cards in the countries you visit and/or set-up roaming on your current contract to at least reduce the cost impact.
Advisory: When travelling it is a great idea to set-up a private email address; there are many well known reputable providers and this can be done with relative ease. Additionally it is a good idea to scan your documents and load them into a private cloud document storage facility so if the worst case happens and you lose your documents at least you can access copies of them.
A good service is Google’s account, it has both email and document storage under the same account.
Financial Services – Yacht Crew advises the following:
Banking: Set-up direct debits and/or cancel non essential costs that debit your account. If you can’t be onshore where your local branch is, administration becomes a little more at arm’s length! If you can, set-up internet banking so you can keep an eye on your account and make transactions when required.
